I'll Take 10: Briogeo Mega Moisture Superfood Mask

Deciding to ditch heat and wear your hair in its natural state is a huge commitment. Aside from the difficult decision of a big chop or growing out the heat damage, you also need to figure out what style you like most and can maintain. Maintenance is key!

It didn’t take much time to figure out that a wash and go was the hairstyle for me. It’s easy and pretty low maintenance. A wash and go also gives you wiggle room to try different styles, like a half up, half down look for example. I’ve tried twist outs and braid outs, but they just never came out the way I wanted. There was one time in particular I did a twist out and it actually came out super cute. The problem was I couldn’t figure out the best way to preserve the style. By the third day I was over it and ready to go back to my tried and true, wash and go.

While I love the convenience of a wash and go, I can’t ignore the fact that it definitely makes my hair more susceptible to dryness and damage. With a wash and go your ends are just kind of out there flowing, not much protection from rubbing against clothes or chairs. You have to be diligent about sealing your ends for some layer of protection. Once I apply styling products for the first time after washing, I don’t usually apply more unless I’m touching up a few areas. That’s where the dryness comes in - my hair could always use a little more hydration.

I can’t tell you how many products I cycled through trying to find the right combo for my hairstyling needs. I wanted definition, but not too much definition because I didn’t want to compromise volume. I also wanted something with the right texture - not too thick and heavy, not too light and watery - something that applied evenly. More importantly, at the top of the priority list, were products that would provide the hydration and moisture it so desperately needed.

While it took me some time to figure out which styling products were my favorite, I learned almost immediately that deep conditioning is non-negotiable. It’s probably one of the best ways to give parched hair a boost of hydration. Curly/coily hair needs more than conditioner that you apply and then rinse out. It needs something that you can leave on to marinate and really penetrate the strands. I tried a bunch of hair masks that were all fine honestly, but nothing compared to the Mega Moisture Superfood Mask from Briogeo.

To start, the scent is absolutely divine. Briogeo describes the scent as a tart green fruit top note with smooth berries and a warm finish. I would have to agree - definitely get some hints of kiwi too. Some of the key ingredients include kiwi (which makes sense), avocado, chia seed oil and spinach. All of which provide antioxidants, moisture, protein and vitamins respectively. What really sets this mask apart from others that I’ve tried, is it promises to boost moisture for softer, smoother hair - it does exactly that!

The directions say to leave the mask on for 10 minutes, but the first time I used it I left it on for 30 minutes for an even deeper treatment. After rinsing it out my hair actually felt softer. Results, almost instantly? I’ll absolutely take 10. Aside from my hair feeling amazing, it also looked shinier and healthier after a few uses. Even when I would try other masks, just because I’m a product junkie, I always found my way back to the superfood hair mask. It never disappointed and always reminded me why I love it so much in the first place.

When writing this edition of “I’ll Take 10”, I realized I’ve easily purchased well over 10 of the Briogeo Mega Moisture Superfood Masks. So, if you haven’t already figured it out, I would absolutely recommend this product. The mask is that good.
